Fixing Green Pools
2021-12-09
In any case, you can follow these 5 simple steps to get your pool back to full health without having to drain it.

1.Remove pool cleaner from pool.
2.Check the filtration system for any problems or malfunctions. Rectify if required.
3.Brush the walls and floor to dislodge the algae into the pool water. Rake up any debris from the bottom of the pool floor. Make sure all baskets are clear.
4.Backwash the filter
5.Return valve to filter and turn on the pump.

If your pool is dark green and you can’t see the bottom, try the following:

  • Adjust the pH of the water to 7.0- 7.4.
  • Add 2kg of Purifier as per instructions (for vinyl pools dissolve in water first).
  • Add 2.5L of Power Algaecide by pouring around the edge of the pool. Keep filter running for at least 24 hours. If pool doesn’t turn milky after 4 hours add a further 2kg of Purifier.

Pool will have varying degrees of a cloudiness which is the dead algae. When pool is clear it is advisable to test for phosphates and treat with the appropriate dosage of Phosphate Remover to prevent algae re-occurring.

For a mid-range green pool, you can:

  • Add 2kg of Purifier and 2.5ltr Power Algaecide. Keep filter running for 24 hours.
For light-green looking pools, we recommend:

  • Adding 500g of Purifier, 1L of Long life Algaecide and 1 x Sparkle Tab or 200ml of Clarifier and run filter for 24 hours.

CARTRIDGE FILTERS:

When using Clarifier, monitor your pressure gauge and when the pressure reaches a high level remove cartridge and rinse clean.

ALL FILTERS:

At the completion of the treatment of your pool water, thoroughly clean your filter by using Filter Cleaner.

REMEMBER:

1.Use your pool net daily to remove leaves and other floating matter from the top of the pool. It's much easier to remove debris before it settles on the bottom.
2.Wear old clothes when using pool chemicals. If chlorine spills or drips on clothing, it may remove some colour.
3.You can take a water sample to your local pool store on a monthly basis and get a computer analysis. This can help you catch pool water problems early.
4.Keep your chlorine level between 2.0 and 4.0 ppm to prevent algae from developing in your swimming pool.
